The Country Wife

Seventeenth century play by English dramatist William Wycherley, based on several plays by Molière.

The Country Wife is renowned for its many lewd jokes and sexually explicit themes, including feigned impotence to mask a string of affairs and a naive 'country wife' coming of age at the hands of London's men.

Only rarely performed for many years, it is now a firm favourite with critics and audiences alike.
