Irish New Wave pop band formed in the 70s, fronted by vocalist and songwriter Bob Geldof.
The band reformed in 2013 for various festival appearances, featuring Pete Briquette, Simon Crowe, Garry Roberts and Geldof.
Their key songs include "I Don't Like Mondays", "Rat Trap", "Banana Republic" and "She's So Modern".
They released their debut album, "The Boomtown Rats" in 1977, followed by: "A Tonic for the Troops" (1978), "The Fine Art of Surfacing" (1979), "Mondo Bongo" (1981), "V Deep" (1982), "In the Long Grass" (1984) and, their first album in 36 years, "Citizens of Boomtown" in 2020.
Garry Roberts passed away in 2022, aged 72.
