The Skatalites

The Skatalites

Jamaican ska band formed in the '60s and reformed in 1983. Most often associated with recordings on Studio One and Treasure Isle and as backing band for Prince Buster. Members have included Doreen Shaffer, the late Tommy McCook, the late Don Drummond, Jackie Mittoo and Lester Sterling.

They released their debut album, "Ska Authentic" in 1964, followed by: "Ska Boo-Da-Ba" (1966), "Ska Authentic Vol. 2" (1967), "Celebration Time" (1968), "The Skatalite!" (1969), "The Legendary Skatalites/African Roots Lloyd Brevett with the Skatalites" (1976), "Rolling Steady: The 1983 Music Mountain Sessions" (2007), "Return of the Big Guns" (1984), "Ska Voovee" (1993), "Hi-Bop Ska" (1994), "Greetings from Skamania" (1996), "Ball of Fire" (1998), "Bashaka with Ken Boothe" (2000), "From Paris with Love" (2009), "On the Right Track" (2007), "Walk With Me" (2012), plus 2016's: "Platinum Ska", along with numerous collaborations with Laurel Aitken.

Their signature tune is the 1967 hit, "Guns of Navarone".
