[1942 - 1970] Jimi Hendrix was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter - widely regarded as one of the most influential guitarists of all time as well as being a massive influence on the direction of contemporary music in the 20th century.
Jimi's signature guitar was a right-handed Fender Strat played upside down and restrung to cater for the fact that he was left-handed.
Dying at the age of just 27, Jimi has had many more albums released posthumously than were released whilst he was still alive (including ten studio albums - just three such albums were released in his lifetime).
Key songs include: 'Hey Joe', 'Voodoo Child (slight return)', 'Purple Haze', 'Foxy Lady', 'Crosstown Traffic', 'Fire', 'Ezy Rider' - to name but a few.
