[b 1939 - d 2018] South African trumpet player, singer and composer who also dabbled with the flugelhorn and cornet.
Active since the late 50s, he formed the band Jazz Epistles with Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim) and came under the artistic wing of Yehudi Menuhin and Johnny Dankworth.
His first key track was "Grazin' In The Grass" (1968) although he became a household name in the 80s after guesting on Paul Simon's "Graceland".
