Shabaka

Shabaka is a London-born jazz clarinettist, raised in Birmingham (via Barbados) who became a member of the Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra, Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Walsall Jazz Orchestra.

He initially formed the Zed-U trio, before working with Courtney Pine and other modern jazz greats, going on to form the bands: Melt Yourself Down, The Heliocentrics, The Comet Is Coming, Sons of Kemet and Shabaka and the Ancestors.

In 2010 he was named a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, enabling him to undertake various projects for broadcast on Radio 3.

Shabaka and the Ancestors released their debut album, "Wisdom of Elders" in 2016. His solo album "Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace" appeared in 2024
